A R T Mobile Lab

The Banff New Media Institute have a great track record of exploring mobile and locative media (amongst other things), and set up their A R T Mobile Lab back in 2005.

They have a current call for participation in their next residency, and if you're lucky they'll even help you get there:

"The Almost Perfect ‘Call and Response’ residency at the Banff New Media Institute is an annual, concentrated four-week experimental prototyping lab that explores the creation and context of location. Practitioners from all walks of locative and mobile media practice are encouraged to apply to the programme. We are particularly interested in practice that extends beyond the device out into the environment, be it landscape or datascape."

Application Deadline: Friday August 15, 2008
Notification Date: Wednesday August 27, 2008.

Every Passing Moment

Chris Caines from UTS sent me a link to Every Passing Moment on the BBC big screen in Liverpool:
Every Passing Moment creates a space in which any discoverable Bluetooth device, will automatically seed a flower in a virtual garden environment projected onto an urban screen.
I also liked the quote from Bren O'Callaghan, BBC Big Screen Manager, Liverpool:
The majority of submissions I receive for interactive and pervasive media proposals throw up walls of specialist and obtuse 'game-play,' suited almost exclusively to gadget-addicts and bequiffed culture junkies.
